RESPONDING TO PAIN SYMPTOMS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN RELIEVED BY USING PARACETAMOL OR IBUPROFEN
REQUEST FOR CODEINE-CONTAINING ANALGESIC BY NAME

I am sorry to hear you are still in pain. Can I recommend another option such as codeine-containing analgesics which are safe and effective for relief of mild to moderate pain when paracetamol or ibuprofen has not worked

The information on the packet will tell you the recommended dose and that you must only take this product for a maximum of 3 days

If you feel treatment is not working or feel you still need to take it after using it for 3 days, please stop taking it and come back to see our pharmacy team (or visit your GP) to discuss an alternative solution that may work better for you

Remember to ask questions in a way that sounds curious. This will help to gain your customer’s trust as you explore sensitive information. Avoid a transactional approach (asking questions in a formal way without engaging sensitively) or coming across as being authoritarian (acting as a gatekeeper who may deny them treatment).
