About aromatic rubs
An aromatic rub can include ingredients such as menthol, camphor, thyme oil, eucalyptus oil, pine oil or turpentine oil.
They can be used in two ways:
- As a rub on product (topical rubefacient)
For adults, the rub should be applied liberally to the chest, throat and back. For children over 2 years apply lightly to chest and back only. Rub in well and leave nightclothes loose for easy inhalation of the vapours. Aromatic rubs can cause a mild cooling or burning sensation when they are applied to the skin. - Inhalation method
For adults and children over the age of 12, melt 2 teaspoons of the aromatic rub in hot water and inhale the vapours for 10-15 minutes.
