EYELID CARE
Many customers with blepharitis may have associated dry eye. This is because if the meibomian glands are blocked/not working well, the tear film is affected, reducing lubrication of the eye.
Dry eye affects the entire surface of the eye, including the eyelid. At least 8 out of 10 customers with dry eye have problems with the oil-producing glands in the eyelids.
Eyelid cleansing is an essential part of a customer's ongoing dry eye and blepharitis management plan, along with drops/ointments.
Some customers may ask about using baby shampoo for cleaning the eyes; Baby shampoo can disrupt the tear film and irritate the eye/eyelids.

BABY SHAMPOO
When cleaning the eyelids, customers may choose to use a small amount of baby shampoo in water. Customers should be reminded that baby shampoo is not designed for the eye area and can cause irritation.
Baby shampoo is a soap, and therefore may disrupt the tear film by destroying the lipid layer.
A study comparing baby shampoo and a dedicated eyelid cleanser found that only the dedicated cleanser proved effective at reducing ocular inflammation, and was the preferred therapy.9
