Possible causes of constipation include:4
- Side effect of certain medicines such as codeine-containing products, iron supplements and aluminium antacids5
- A diet that is low in fibre or fluids
- Not getting enough exercise
- Not going to the toilet when feeling the urge
- Pregnancy
- Certain medical conditions such as underactive thyroid and irritable bowel syndrome.5

Drink plenty of fluids, not including caffeine/alcohol-containing drinks
