SHOULD IBUPROFEN BE GIVEN WITH FOOD?

Some parents may be unclear if they should only give ibuprofen with food. Generally speaking, there is no evidence that taking OTC ibuprofen after food has any gastro-protective benefits; ibuprofen is shown to be remarkably well-tolerated at OTC doses in a number of studies.14

There are also studies to suggest that OTC NSAIDs should be taken on a fasting stomach, not with food as commonly advocated. Food can delay the absorption and onset of action of NSAIDs through delayed gastric emptying.14
