The best way to deal with allergies is to identify the source and avoid it where possible. This is quite difficult with airborne pollen, but there are things that sufferers can do to limit their exposure:
- Keep windows and doors closed, particularly in the early evening when the pollen count is high
- Check the pollen count daily and stay indoors when it is high
- Avoid cutting the grass
- Wear wrap-around sunglasses
- Apply a nasal barrier spray (e.g. Becodefence) to line the nasal passages, or a nasal barrier balm (e.g. HayMax) or petroleum jelly to prevent pollen from entering the nose.

Temperature is an important factor in the release of pollen. Any higher than 28°C and all pollen levels decrease. A high consecutive number of hot days can lead to the supply of pollen running out, according to the Met Office.
