Vascular dementia
Although the brain damage that causes vascular dementia (VaD) is irreversible, it may be possible to slow disease progression via:
- Treating any underlying conditions, e.g. stroke
- Adopting a healthier lifestyle
- Rehabilitative support, e.g. physiotherapy.
Mixed dementia
NICE advises that mixed dementia is managed according to the likely dominant condition.
Parkinson's disease
The side effects of some medication for Parkinson's disease may worsen dementia symptoms. Oral rivastigmine is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate dementia in Parkinson's disease.
