module menu icon Gathering information and advising customers

Read the women's health article, as well as other sources of information, to strengthen your knowledge of women's health issues. This will give you more insight and information to pass on to your customers.

You will find plenty of information on a range of women's health issues in the article. Do you think any health issues are missing? If you do, you might like to add them to your list for team discussion.

Or why not have a team discussion to identify women's health issues that have emerged in your pharmacy or consulting room? In order to make the training and discussion useful and relevant to your work, discuss:

  • Which genes are linked with breast cancer? Who is tested for faulty genes? What is the risk of getting breast cancer for a woman with a faulty gene?
  • Which charities can provide information to women on breast awareness and breast cancer? Generate a list of charities' websites to keep in the pharmacy
  • What are the benefits and drawbacks associated with hormone replacement therapy (HRT) during and after the menopause?
  • What is the evidence base for the use of complementary therapies in menopausal symptoms (e.g. hot flushes)? How can your findings influence the complementary products stocked in the pharmacy and your recommendations to women suffering from these conditions?
  • Consider how you can put a woman with a potentially embarrassing health issue at ease. How will you encourage dialogue between yourself and the customer? How will you help her to highlight her health concerns? Discuss some possible opening questions in your team.
