In this module, we have looked at the increasingly topical subject of mentoring and how it can be used as an effective tool for supporting the growth and development of a colleague, more junior team member or a pre-registration graduate whom you are not the direct tutor for. We have looked at the importance of establishing clear expectations right at the outset and of how to structure a mentoring session and use a range of different open questions.
Mentoring is not about giving advice, but is about helping others to come up with their own solutions, gain broader perspectives and tap into your experience and your life lessons. It is not a one-way street and the experience can be immensely rewarding for you and those whom you mentor.
