There is nothing more rewarding than developing your employees. Of course, to develop you must understand the starting point:

  1. What areas require development?
  2. What does the employee aspire to? 
  3. How does this fit with the business plan?
  4. Does the employee want to be developed in this direction?

Development could include simply showing a current employee how to undertake a new task or to aid those who aspire to a career pathway to gain relevant qualifications, such as for the dispensing technician role. It is imperative that you never impose a course of training and development on anyone. Of course, some positions require mandatory programmes, but this should be discussed with the employee before starting a new job or prior to the implementation of any new government policy or regulation.
