The following customers should be referred to the pharmacist:
- Customers taking other medication
- Pregnant women
- Children presenting with a crop of ulcers, as well as sores on their hands and feet as they may have hand, foot and mouth disease
- Anyone with particularly large ulcers (larger than the blunt end of a pencil) or persistent ulcers
- Anyone with an ulcer that is getting more painful and red
- Cold sore sufferers who have a weakened immune system
- Customers with a cold sore that is very large, painful or not healing.
