The following customers should be referred to the pharmacist:

  • Customers taking other medication
  • Pregnant women
  • Children presenting with a crop of ulcers, as well as sores on their hands and feet as they may have hand, foot and mouth disease
  • Anyone with particularly large ulcers (larger than the blunt end of a pencil) or persistent ulcers
  • Anyone with an ulcer that is getting more painful and red
  • Cold sore sufferers who have a weakened immune system
  • Customers with a cold sore that is very large, painful or not healing.

Check with your pharmacist or pharmacy SOPs for specific guidance.
