Nasal spray
This product is recommended for heavy smokers. It contains nicotine 10mg/ml and each metered spray of 50μl delivers 0.5mg nicotine.
A three-month course of treatment is recommended. For eight weeks the patient uses the spray as required to relieve craving, up to a maximum of one spray to each nostril twice an hour for 16 hours per day (32mg nicotine daily). Thereafter, usage should be gradually reduced to zero over four weeks. Adults who are still using the spray after nine months, and adolescents (12-18 years) who are still using it after 12 weeks, should be referred to a specialist.
