Asda has announced the launch of a new earache service for adults from its 226 pharmacies in England.
The service, which launched yesterday (Thursday February 27) is priced at £25 and is offered to patients aged 18 and above. Pharmacists will use an otoscope to determine whether patients are suffering from acute otitis media, and will be able to prescribe drops to alleviate symptoms at no additional cost.
More serious cases will be triaged to “the right place within the NHS,” the supermarket chain said, adding that through offering same-day appointments it hoped to reduce “the burden on NHS services”.
Faisal Tuddy, head of pharmacy at Asda, commented: “We’ve been listening to our patients, and we know that ear health is something many people don’t prioritise until an issue arises, but it’s vital to check your ears regularly.
“By introducing this service at such an affordable price, we aim to make ear health more accessible for everyone, and help our customers spot any problems before they become more serious.”
