Assessment for target organ damage

As part of their cardiovascular risk investigation, a person should be assessed, usually at the GP surgery, for target organ damage that may have occurred because of untreated hypertension. This involves urine dipsticks for haematuria, and urine albumin: creatine, as well as blood tests for diabetes, kidney disease, cholesterol, hypertensive retinopathy, and cardiac function.
