More conditions included in the New Medicine Service

Thirteen conditions were added to the New Medicine Service (NMS) in the CPCF from September 2021 in a move that was broadly welcomed across the sector:

  • Acute coronary syndrome (ACS)
  • Atrial fibrillation (AF)
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Epilepsy
  • Glaucoma
  • Gout
  • Heart failure
  • Hypercholesterolaemia
  • Long-term risks of venous thromboembolism/embolism
  • Osteoporosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Stroke/transient ischaemic attack
  • Urinary incontinence and retention.

The directions for the NMS now permit contractors who have received an exemption from the requirement to have a consultation room (due to their premises size) to provide the service remotely or at a patient’s home. All other contractors providing the service can similarly continue to provide the service remotely, where appropriate, and in the patient’s home.
