Introduction & module overview
Between 3 and 6 million people in the UK have urinary incontinence ranging from leaks of a few drops to voiding of the bladder. This module focuses on incontinence in women.
Occasional urine leakage is common and accepted by many women as a normal part of growing older – but leaking should never be considered normal. Incontinence is associated with embarrassment, distress and stigma, and most people do not consult their doctor about it.
Patients visiting their pharmacy to purchase absorbent pads or pants present an opportunity to ask whether they have tried behavioural and lifestyle changes that could help their symptoms.
