There are many resources available for young people that can help them become more knowledgeable and skilled in dealing with anxiety:
- The Royal College of Psychiatrists has published information on worries and anxieties for young people which may help them better understand their condition
- The NHS Every Mind Matters website has a dedicated section on anxiety, including a video to help sufferers feel in control of their condition
- The Childline website has a mental health coping kit with suggestions of positive activities and distractions
- The BBC has recently launched Headroom, a collection of resources including personal stories, mental wellbeing tips, music mixes and suggested activities, which it bills as “Your Mental Health Toolkit”
- The Unicef Voices of Youth site has a guide to anxiety, which can be accessed in several different languages
- Being referred to mental health services can feel like a big deal, but it can be helpful to find out more about it from the NHS
- A list of NHS recommended mental health apps can be found online. Many of these are free, including Catch It, which helps users manage negative thoughts and look at problems differently, Chill Panda, which teaches breathing techniques, Thrive, which uses games to track mood and teach anxiety control methods, TogetherAll, which provides round the clock support from therapists, and WorryTree which harnesses CBT techniques.
