Plan, do, study, act (PDSA) cycles allow for potential improvements to be approached methodically by providing a cyclical structure for implementing and observing changes.
The use of PDSA can be triggered by:
- Incident analysis after a patient safety incident
- Considering making a change in a process or in the pharmacy environment
- A new process being introduced
- Wanting to monitor the impact of changes that you have made
- A scheduled plan for revisiting a process, e.g. repeat every six months
- The use of PRIMO.
