MaPSaF was developed from research examining the use of safety information in organisations. There are now several versions, including one for pharmacies.
It’s intended to help in understanding safety culture in pharmacies, and what people can do to improve it.
This framework is done in a workshop format and generates discussion between the workshop members – typically, all people working in the same pharmacy – about their safety issues and what to do about these.
Based on the “development” model previously discussed, it is intended to be used to elicit and understand team members’ honest views about what is and isn’t working well in the pharmacy in terms of quality and safety, and identifying what needs to be done to bring about improvement. There are no right or wrong answers, and neither is the purpose to assess, report on, or blame individual members of staff for patient safety problems.
