There are various models to describe how safety culture comes about in a given organisation. Here, the focus is on just two.
The “informed culture” model
This model considers the idea that safety culture is the coming together of four parts. Click on the types of safety culture below to read more.
Encourages staff involvement in reporting and learning
In which staff are consistently and fairly held to an agreed standard of acceptable behaviour
Involves the organisation being adaptable in the face of unanticipated hazards or danger
In which the organisation shows a willingness to learn and implement solutions.
The product of these is an informed culture, that proactively collects and acts on information about safety issues.
The term “just culture” may be familiar from reviewing NHS Improvement’s patient safety resources. One of these resources is a guide to “just culture” in relation to incident investigation.
