Pharmacy teams have a key role in helping to increase the public’s awareness and importance of using antibiotics only when they are really needed.

The ‘Keep Antibiotics Working’ national campaign, which is designed to support healthcare professionals by reducing patients’ expectations for antibiotics, has a range of resources that pharmacy teams can use locally. The campaign features advertising on TV, radio, digital and social media, in addition to PR from October to December each year. The resources, including dedicated pharmacy posters and leaflets, are also available to download from Public Health England’s (PHE) Campaign Resource Centre.

European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) and World Antibiotic Awareness Week are held each year in November and provide an opportunity for focused attention to raise awareness with other healthcare professionals and members of the public. Educational materials and resources are available via the PHE website.

Become an Antibiotic Guardian

All pharmacy team members are encouraged to choose their individual pledge about how they plan to help tackle antimicrobial resistance and to encourage their customers to do the same at Antibiotic Guardian.

You can also join the conversation on social media via Facebook or Twitter using #AntibioticGuardian.
