Asthma prevalence
Asthma is a common condition with 5.4 million people in the UK currently receiving treatment: 1.1 million children (one in 11) and 4.3 million adults (one in 12). The UK has one of the worst asthma deaths rates in Europe and in 2016, 1,410 people died from asthma in the UK – an average of three every day. It is reported that two thirds of these deaths are preventable. Pharmacy teams are ideally placed to support people with asthma, helping them get the most from their medicines and optimise control of their asthma.
