Asthma and COPD explained
The UK has one of the highest rates of self-reported asthma in the world. In 2012, an estimated 5.4 million people in the UK were receiving treatment for the condition. In February 2013, NICE published quality standard QS25 Asthma.
The management of COPD is covered extensively by NICE in its COPD pathway. It should be noted that the COPD clinical guideline CG101 is due for review, and the information is largely outdated. The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) reports have been reviewed most recently, with the inclusion of the latest evidence related to the management of COPD.
