Should I have my eyes checked more often now that I have turned 40?
Regular eye examinations are essential at any age, but are particularly important as people get older or if they have a family history of eye conditions.
“After the age of 40 years, I advise that people aim to have their eyes checked every year rather than every two years, as the risk of developing conditions that affect the eye, such as glaucoma or diabetes, increases with age,†says Mr Khan.
“These conditions can be asymptomatic for the patient until they are quite advanced and significant irreversible damage has occurred. More frequent checks will enable conditions to be detected, and therefore treated, earlier on.â€
