Introduction and module overview
The CPD module on glaucoma (PM, June issue) gave an overview of the different forms of the condition, including how glaucoma is classified and can present. This module goes into more detail about pharmacological treatment options. It will focus on medicines used for chronic open angle glaucoma (COAG), rather than other forms of the condition as these are less common and so not dealt with so often in primary care.
Having said that, there is a significant amount of overlap in the management of different forms of glaucoma and much of the information presented here is relevant for all glaucoma patients, not just those diagnosed with COAG.
The structure of this module is as follows:
- Pre-consultation: Covers potential concerns a patient with glaucoma may have and a reminder of key treatments
- Starting the consultation: Includes exploration of the patient’s existing knowledge
- Questions to ask during the consultation
- Ending the consultation: Features useful prompts to check the patient’s understanding and signposting for related support resources.
