A pair of first-time buyers have completed a deal to take over a pharmacy in Leeds.

Brothers Shujah and Sarum Qureshi bought Star Pharmacy on Cardigan Road for an undisclosed fee from Khuram Akhtar and Mohammed Ali, described by Christie and Co who brokered the deal as “Huddersfield-based multi-operators.” They owned Star Pharmacy for 10 years.

Christie and Co, who revealed the pharmacy dispenses about 8,600 items a month, said Akhtar and Ali decided to sell so they can “focus on growing their wider property and business portfolio in and around Huddersfield.”

Akhtar said selling the pharmacy “was a difficult decision” because it had been “the lynchpin” of their success for a decade.

Christie and Co said Shujah and Sarum Qureshi “plan to work as owner-operators  and build on the pharmacy’s excellent service and reputation.”

Jon Booth, director-pharmacy at Christie and Co, said: “Star Pharmacy is a well-known, well-regarded business in a great location right in the action of the city’s key student area, so it was always going to be a popular instruction.

“It's great to see it go to two local brothers who know the area so well and I am sure their hands-on approach and local knowledge will see the business perform even better than it has historically.”
