Well Pharmacy has sold one of its 12 branches in Newport to an independent pharmacist who has reassured concerned patients the new pharmacy will continue to provide a repeat dispensing service as well as other key services.
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, who are responsible for planning and delivering NHS services in Newport and the surrounding area, told Independent Community Pharmacist the pharmacist, who it did not name, will take over the running of the Well branch in Caerleon Road in the “next few weeks.”
However, according to local reports, residents have been anxiously waiting to hear if the new owner will continue providing services that have been available at the Well branch.
“The new owner has confirmed that a repeat dispensing service will continue. Other services that pharmacies are contracted to provide by NHS Wales on behalf of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board will also continue, such as the common aliments scheme, emergency medicine supply, contraception service and seasonal influenza vaccines,” a spokesperson for the Board said.
The sale raises questions such as why Well decided to sell the pharmacy and whether it plans any more branch sales in Newport. Well, which lists 12 branches including the Caerleon Road branch on its website, has been contacted for comment.
