If we were to be imaginative, we could expand the services offered through the pharmacy for patients with long-term conditions and provide space and opportunities for other healthcare workers to run services from the pharmacy as well. This could include podiatrists, nutritionists, counsellors or physiotherapists.
If you were to take a look at the sales in the shop area of your pharmacy, you might find that the breadth of product ranges and the products within those ranges could be rationalised to create space for a second consulting room to be used in this way.

Activity
- Write a list of all the things you do in the pharmacy. From this list, select the five main things that only a pharmacist can do.
- Find the strategic plan for your local area. Look for separate plans from public health departments, health and wellbeing boards as well as the CCG/PCO. What are the key long-term conditions that will be focused on in your locality?
Â
The next step is to put these ideas into action. Finish by recording your learning outcomes.
